Initial condition – Main structure of the doors are loosen overall. Numerous cracks and tears on the joints and all across the doors. The bottom parts of the doors are rotten. The brass fitting is affected by strong oxidation. The surface of the oak wood is damaged by a strong non-transparent paint layer also covering the fitting. The brass handle of the right wing is missing.
The restoration process – Dismounting and transport to the workshop. Dismounting of the fitting. Gradual removal of the inappropriate paint. Cleaning of the joints and regluing. Fixing of the cracks and tears. Material completion for the lower parts. Cementation and retouching. Application of the new surface finish using 3 layers of Holzaussenol natural oil system. Mounting of the cleaned fitting and the lock to its original place. Installation to the building’s stone portal.
