Initial condition – Due to the exposure to humidity the sofa has completely loosen structure including the joints and the veneering. Multiple cracks and tears all across the veneered area. Part of the relief carving is broken out similar to many areas with veneering. Partial affection by wood-worms. Damaged upholstery including the surface finish.

The restoration process – Dismounting of the sofa and removal of the damaged upholstery. Cleaning of the joints and petrification of the damaged areas. Gluing together the whole frame. Fixing of the loosen veneering and completion of the missing spots. Sensible restoration of the carving including a retouch of the ornament. Replacement of the surface finish by a new one using hand French polishing. Mounting of the new upholstery using traditional method up to the covering fabric.
