Cherry Wood Chest of Drawers – Kostelec nad Orlicí Chateau 1835

Initial condition – The base structure is in fine condition. The back board is loosen and cracked. The drawers are worn from the bottom and their structure is loosen. Part of the profiled carved ledge is missing. Veneering is loosen in multiple places, sometimes, especially near the edges, the veneering is missing entirely. One leg’s base has a missing part as well. The surface finish is damaged by debris and bad manipulation. The fitting and brass parts are affected by strong oxidation.

The restoration process – Removal of the cracked back board. Cleaning of the joints of the main drawers. Gradual gluing together. Completion and fixing of the veneering and other missing parts. Production of the missing parts of the leg. Replacement of the surface finish by a new one using hand French polishing. Cleaning of the brass fitting and locks followed by mounting them to their original places. Waxing of the inside of the drawers.
